Diversified Pharmacological Research in Amsterdam: Paralyzing Venoms, Bradykinin, Experimental Shock, and Mammary Gland Culture.

Abstract

Research in the Department of Pharmacology, University of Amsterdam, is being carried out in four areas: (1) the physiology of paralyzing venoms with special reference to neuromuscular transmission mechanisms in invertebrates; (2) bradykinin: antagonism by analgesics and enhancement by fibrinopeptides and synthetic peptides; (3) tourniquet trauma and hemorrhagic shock; (4) mammary gland organ culture. Some recent results mentioned in conversation are reported briefly. The organization and personnel strength of the department are summarized. (Author)
