Determining the Concentration of Motor-Oil Additives Present Together and Containing the Same Metals,

Abstract

It is shown that the dependence of surface tension in oil on temperature and additive content can be used to determine the concentrations of additives even if these additives have identical metals in them. For oil with a blend of the barium-containing additives SB-3 and BFK, empirical relationships are derived which enable the calculation of these additive concentrations based on the values of surface tension in the oil, determined at temperatures of 15 and 20 degrees centigrade.
