Investigation of the Influence of Material Variables on Fatigue Mechanisms in Composites.

Abstract

This investigation pursued the following areas: 1. Determination of the staticand fatigue characteristics of a graphite/epoxy composite of current interestto the NASC. 2. Variation of temperature, stress mode & STRESS RATIO. 3.Utilization of optical and scanning electron microscopic techniques in conjunctionwith section of the samples to determine the feasibility of following theprogress of fatigue cracking in these graphite composites. 4. Variation offabrication processing (use of glass scrim cloth interlayers.). Improvedfatigue resistance of graphite composites with scrim cloth interleaving wasdemonstrated. (Author, modified-PL)
