Input-Output Data Operators in the COBOL-DNEPR-2 Translator,

Abstract

The input-output system ensures execution of such operations as data transfer from internal storage to tapes and vice versa, change of tapes, check of correct tape selection, data transfer from the internal storage to machine output device and vice versa. The input-output system is represented by the operators (portions of the instruction) which transfer data while processing it; the operators are: OPEN (the input or output block of information identified by a number); READ (a specified external record into the internal storage of the machine); WRITE (information from the internal storage to the output device); and CLOSE (means the end of processing of the block of data). Issuance and execution of the above instructions is detailed as applied to the COBOL and Dnepr-2 languages. (Author)
