The Implementation of an Algorithm for the Retrieval of Patent Applications

Abstract

Due to the technological boom of the last decade, the patent office has found itself in a difficult position. As of 1966, there were three million patents on record. This number is increasing at the rate of sixty thousand patents a year. With such a large volume of new ideas, it is nearly impossible for a patent examiner to search prior art in order to judge the uniqueness of a new patent. The patent office has therefore been forced to use an automated search routine. A retrieval method is proposed in the report.
