Report on Linac Operation: 1 July-31 December 1970.
Abstract
The operation and use of the NRL 60-MeV Linac is described for the period 1 July - 31 December 1970. Progress on the research program is discussed, including 180 degree electron scattering on 32S, 36A, and 40Ca. Slow neutron resonance data on rhenium isotopes have yielded interesting evidence for intermediate structure. Calculations have been made justifying the so-called multiplicity method for obtaining s-wave resonance spins, and rough agreement has been found with data on six Hf, Nd, and Re isotopes. Total time for the six-month period was 2372 hours, divided into 1698 hours for beam and set-up time (including 77 hours for outside users), 600 hours devoted to maintenance and improvements, and 74 hours lost to breakdowns. References are included, as are brief descriptions of the use of the linac by other groups. (Author)
