Microbiology in Southern Germany,
Abstract
In visits to seven Institutes located in Bonn, Giessen, Frankfurt, Wurzburg and Erlangen it was learned that research responsibilities were shared with teaching and in most with diagnostic duties. At four of the institutes new buildings were either planned or under construction. A fifth, the Institute of Virology at the University of Wurzburg, has just moved into its new building. Only one institute seemed to have difficulty with funds. It was a government institute not connected with a university. The government is interested in enabling more young people to go to the university. In most institutes the quality of research is very good and the equipment is excellent. (Author)
