An Analysis of West Point Graduates' Attrition Rates and Their Use in Prediction Models.
Abstract
Data on attrition rates of West Point graduates is collected and analyzed. The departure intervals during which attrition occurs are classified as wartime or peacetime for the various class groups. When such departure intervals for successive class groups are given the same classification, attrition rates remain stationary over short time periods. In situations when the departure intervals are given dissimilar classifications, ratios of peacetime-wartime attrition rates are calculated. An analysis of such attrition rates leads to the formulation of a model to estimate attrition. Use of the model and areas for further study are outlined. (Author)
