Reflection Factors for Low Overpressure Blast Waves,

Abstract

A need exists for equations to calculate the reflection factors associated with detonations in the atmosphere. These reflection factors are used to predict the peak effective overpressure of a blast wave striking an object. The report satisfies that need in the 2 to 10 psi range. Quadratic equations are presented which express theoretical reflection factors as functions of the peak side-on overpressure and the angle of incidence. These equations assume near ideal blast wave and reflecting surface conditions for angles of incidence of 0 to 90 degrees. A computer subroutine, REFLECT, was written to facilitate solving these equations as part of an airframe vulnerability analysis. The subroutine is included in the report. (Author)
