Potential Functions for Triaxial Ellipsoids.

Abstract

A general analysis of ellipsoidal coordinate systems is used as a foundation for the solution of a class of problems which involve an ellipsoidal boundary in an infinite medium. Formulae are given for the calculation of potentials and gradients in the vicinity of the ellipsoidal boundary. The formulae are applied to stress-velocity fields in hydrodynamics and to stress-strain fields in elasticity. Utilization of the formulae is faciliated by a system of programming in FORTRAN IV.
