Fundamental Development and Application of a Reaction Rate Model for Mechanical Failure of Viscoelastic Materials.

Abstract

The Final Technical Summary Report presents the results obtained during an experimental program for the further development and application of a reaction rate model for mechanical failure of viscoelastic materials. The objectives of this program have been the evaluation of a general reaction rate failure model applied to fracture data obtained for a CTPB propellant and its binder and the investigation of the influence of chemical microstructure on the model parameters. A special thermal mechanical experiment wherein a uniaxial specimen of Solithane 113 was subjected to a spatially-and time-varying temperature gradient during uniaxial extension was also conducted.
