Effect of Aortic Impedance on Heart Performance in Conscious Dogs.

Abstract

With the conscious dog as a model, various hemodynamic factors thought to influence the performance of the heart were evaluated. Contrary to many theories, the effects of aortic hydraulic impedance were small in comparison with the effects of heart rate and venous filling pressure. Although the d.c. impedance could, on occasion, exert significant influence on the performance of the heart, the a.c. component was negligible. (Author)
