Status Report on a Concept for an Expendable Collapsible Air Cargo Container (TAC-ROC 5-69).

Abstract

The report presents a concept for an Air Cargo, Collapsible, Expendable, Lightweight container referred by acronym as the ACCEL-tainer (R-1970). The ACCEL-tainer consists of wirebound wood frames lined with water-resistant fiberboard to form two of the components, namely, the body (wrap-around sidewall) and the top. The third component, the pallet, is a fourway entry type with plywood top and bottom decks joined by specially modified posts. This container concept should provide the needed factors of low-cost, expendability, good strength-to-weight ratio, protection against the elements and pilferage, quick erection/knock-down capability of only three components without tools, and other essential features.
