Synthesis and Study of Dialkylbenzyl Disulfides,

Abstract

Results from testing certain of the synthesized disulfides on a 4-ball friction machine using mark ShKh-15 balls indicated that they possess high antiwear properties. Thus when the dialkylbenzyl sulfide obtained from chloromethylated catalytic cracking naphtha was added to oil AK-15 in a quantity of 5 percent, the generalized wear index of the oil was raised to 65.5. Analogous results were obtained when other representatives of the dialkylbenzyl disulfides were introduced into the composition of oil AK-15. Thus, the series of catalytic cracking fractions can be used as cheap and available raw materials for the synthesis of highly effective antiwear oil additives. (Author)
