Operating Characteristics of a Neodymium Glass Laser,

Abstract

A dependence of operation characteristics of the Nd glass laser on the frequency of pumping pulses was followed experimentally. The investigation was carried out on the active element of a LPS-28-2 Nd glass. An ISPT-6000 pumping lamp was used. The active element and the pumping lamp were cooled with a given aqueous solution at 20 degrees. Other experimental settings were: distance between mirrors of the resonator 210 mm; a given frequency of pumping pulses; duration of the pulses 1-8 mu sec. A dependence of the radiation energy on the frequency of pumping pulses exhibits a max., a position of which is practically independent of the pumping energy. For the laser described, a maximum radiation energy in the periodic regime of operation was observed, when the pumping energy was set to the value corresponding to the threshold pumping energy in the single-frequency regime.
