Silicone-Asbestos Obturator Pads for 175mm Gun, M113A 1, A Product Improvement.
Abstract
The purpose of this investigation was to design an all-weather obturator pad that could be used in the 175 MM Cannon M113A1. Many test pads were fabricated and fired with temperatures varying form -50 F to +145 F. The silicone-asbestos composite pad was found to perform most satisfactorily after firing over 10,000 rounds at all firing zones at all weather conditions. This design can be adapted to other bad loaded cannon. (Author-PL)
