Buckling Analysis of a Rectangular Plate by the Kantorovich Method.

Abstract

The Kantorovich method is applied to the elastic and plastic buckling problems of a rectangular plate. Stowell's theory of plastic buckling is adopted and the general method of solution is presented. The illustrated examples considered here are a class of uniformly compressed rectangular plates that are claped and free along two unloaded sides and having various edge conditions along the loaded sides. Simple approximate formulae are derived for calculation of the buckling load in both elastic and plastic ranges. Some numerical results, together with discussions, are given. It seems that this method, apart from its simplicity and generality, gives also very accurate results for engineering problems. (Author)
