High-Speed, High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography of Similar Tropane Alkaloids.

Abstract

A system was devised for the qualitative separation and quantitation of two similar alkaloids having pharmacological importance, namely, hyoscyamine hydrochloride and scopolamine hydrobromide. The system encompasses separation of the two alkaloids on a silica gel column with 10% methanol in chloroform as eluting solvent, followed by quantitation via area integration of the response of a differential refractive index detector. The entire analysis is carried out on an industrially available high-speed, high-pressure liquid chromatograph. (Author)
