Cyanoacrylate Adhesives in Eye Wounds.

Abstract

Tissue tolerance studies have shown that isobutyl cyanoacrylate, and any of the homologs from n-butyl to n-decyl cyanoacrylate can be used to seal eye perforations. Isobutyl cyanocarylate is the best choice at this time, principally because it is reasonably well tolerated in small amounts by eye tissues, and because it forms the strongest bond, not only with eye tissues but also with alloplastic materials used to seal choroidal perforations. From clinical results, and extensive animal experiments, there is little doubt that cyanoacrylate adhesives, when properly used, are invaluable adjuncts for the treatment of perforating wounds in the eye.
