The Manufacture of Clad Sheets of VAD23 Alloy,

Abstract

The investigations conducted showed that to ensure a higher quality weld of the cladding during hot-rolling of VAD23 alloy it is essential to fulfill the following basic technological requirements: the operation of hot-rolling should be divided into two operations carried out after two heatings: a cladding rolling at a temperature of 380-340 degrees C, the purpose of which is to reduce the plastic flow of the aluminum plate at the moment of welding, and a regular rolling of preclad slbs at the temperature of maximum plasticity of the base alloy; heating of milled slabs with the cladding sheets before the first cladding rolling should be done as quickly as possible to prevent surface oxidation of the slab under the cladding sheet; the working shafts of the hot-rolling mill for the cladding-sheet welding operation should be extremely rough-ground to ensure maximum deceleration of the plastic flow of the cladding during its welding due to increased adhesion of the aluminum to the shaft; when carrying out cladding rolling it is essential to completely prevent the dropping of emulsion and oil on the cladding or shafts (working and support), to preclude local cold welding of the cladding; before the initial weld-rolling the working shafts of the hot-rolling mill must be heated to the maximum possible temperature to alleviate adhesion of the cladding material to the working shaft.
