Design, Development, Fabrication and Testing of a Lightweight Pallet for Projectile, 155mm, HE, M107.

Abstract

The purpose of this engineering effort was to provide a new pallet design for the shipment of 155mm projectiles. The new pallet design overcomes all deficiencies of the present wooden pallets used for shipment. The pallet described is fabricated from steel welded construction and eliminates the problems associated with the wooden pallets. The conclusions of this development program clearly demonstrate the superiority of the steel pallet design. The steel pallets provide a design capable of reuse with greater safety to personnel and equipment, plus ease of handling by all conventional means. The use of these pallets for shipment would result in a lower overall handling cost for packaging of the 155MM Projectile, HE, M107. (Author)
