Research Studies Performed Under Contract Nonr-839(34) at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.
Abstract
A summary of the research studies performed at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn for the period July 1, 1968 through June 30, 1970 is presented. The research program conducted deals with three major problem areas, namely: numerical analysis of fluid mechanics, non-continuum gas dynamics, and radiation effects. The program is primarily concerned with such computational details as stability, influence and proper treatment of boundary conditions, and economy of calculation. The study of rarefied gas dynamics emphasizes such items as analytical approaches to the shock structure problem and analysis of a sharp flat plate. The study of radiation effects is mainly a continuation of some unfinished items initiated during the previous contract period. A review is given of the major accomplishments achieved in each of these areas. (Author)
