Investigation of Molecular Constituents in the Atmosphere.

Abstract

The research objectives were attained on the ozone molecule. Sixty-six rotational transitions previously unobserved in O3 have been located in the region from 50 GHz to 316 GHz and accurate frequency measurements were performed on each transition. In addition to these measurements, Stark and Zeeman studies were performed on several transitions; pressure broadening in O3 was studied for linewidth measurements. Six transitions in S02 were observed and frequency measurements taken in the region from 280 GHz to 2862 GHz; two new D2O transitions were observed. Stark effect studies were performed on the H2O and H2S molecules, providing data for the re-evaluation of the dipole moments for these molecules. A search for transitions arising from excited energy levels in H2O and HCN molecules was undertaken. (Author)
