Note on a Problem by Lance and a Problem by Bellman,

Abstract

In this paper, the method of particular solutions developed in a paper by Miele (1968) for linear systems and in a paper by Miele and Iyer (1970) for nonlinear systems is employed to solve two difficult two-point boundary-value problems. One is the nonlinear problem of Lance and Rogers and the other is the linear problem of Bellman and Kalaba. In both cases, the method of particular solutions yields the solution without difficulty.
