A Lagrangian Formulation for Large Elastic Deformations of Thin Shells.

Abstract

The report presents a Lagrangian formulation for large elastic deformations of thin shells, particularly suitable for finite element analysis. A variational principle involving the rate of displacement is obtained. This principle is the starting point of an incremental analysis. The displacement field is integrated with respect to time by Euler's method and, for each step, a quadratic variational problem has to be solved. (Author)
