Photoemission from Germanium Single Crystals.

Abstract

Studies of band structure of germanium by using photoemission have been reported recently by Donovan and Spicer and Donovan. Some new experimental results of electronic structures of simple crystal germanium are presented here. Principal results are as follows: The Gamma 15 levels relative to the Gamma 25' valence band maximum was determined to be 2.93 plus or minus 0.05 eV by using derivative of energy distribution curves. The spin-orbit splitting of the Gamma 25' level was found to be 0.27 plus or minus 0.05 eV. The L2' level was determined to be 8.2 plus or minus 0.2 eV. The peak levels for the band delta 2' and the band Sigma 3 were estimated to be 3.2 plus or minus 0.2 eV and 2.5 plus or minus 0.2 eV, respectively. (Author)
