Calculation of Elastic Properties of Composites by Means of the Van der Poel Theory.

Abstract

A theoretical model for the calculation of shear modulus, bulk modulus and thermal expansion behaviour of two phase composite materials due to Van der Poel is analysed and the calculations are generalized for arbitrary elastic constants of the constituents. Results are presented in explicite form and a computer program for the performance of t e necessary calculations is included. Results for the shear moduli of the composite materials are discussed and compared with measurements on the composite system polyurethane rubber-sodium chloride. (Author)
