Cobalt Complexes Containing B8C2H10(2-) Prepared by the Reduction of 1,6-B8C2H10.
Abstract
Reduction of 1,6-dicarba-closo-decaborane by sodium naphthalide in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of Na(+)C5H5(-) and CoCl2 yielded the complex B8C2H10CoC5H5. In the absence of Na(+)C5H5(-) the complex (B8C2H10)2Co(-) formed. The compounds were characterized by 1H and 11B nmr, mass spectral and equivalent weight determinations, and elemental analyses. Nmr data is consistent with a structure in which the Co(III) and the B8C2H10(2-) ion complete an 11-member polyhedron as in B9C2H11. (Author)
