A Sensitive, Low-Field Incremental Magnetometer for Use from Room to Liquid Helium Temperatures.

Abstract

A phase sensitive detector and commercial Hall probe are combined with a control current amplifier to provide a sensitive, low-field incremental magnetometer for use from room to liquid helium temperatures. Methods for cancellation of the zero-field Hall voltage are discussed. A field resolution of 7 milligauss in an ambient field of 10 gauss has been obtained. The Hall probe's characteristic was found to be extremely linear over the 0 to 10 gauss low-field range and decreased slightly in sensitivity at 4.2K. (Author)
