A Study of the Biology and Pathophoricity of Biting Midges (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) in Taiwan.

Abstract

Investigations on the biology of the biting midges in Taiwan from Decmeber 1969 till December 1970 are reported. The total collection is 170, 890. Culicoides schultzei is the most abundant species comprising 87%; C. arakawae 7%; and the remaining groups of midges including a number of culicoid species. Experiments with culicoides midges biting on Culex mosquitoes were made. Also experiments on inducing interspecific feeding were made. (Author)
