Research in Theoretical Astrophysics.

Abstract

A description is presented of research carried out in several fields of plasma physics, including work on very dense plasmas Rho greater than one million g/cc, linear and non-linear effects, magneto-plasmas and zero B-field plasmas. Bulk properties such as conductivity, radiation, etc. have been calculated. A study of relativistic shock waves in dense degenerate plasmas has resulted in the calculation of the dissipation by neutrino emission of such shocks. The 'gravitational plasma', as exemplified by globular star clusters, etc., has been studied, and a variety of distribution functions corresponding to observed density distributions has been obtained. Field theoretic approaches to plasma physics, including calculation of equations of state, have been explored. Calculations have been made for the scalar interactions. Fusion chain reactions in stars have been calculated. Plasma confinement studies have been carried out in conjunction with experiments being performed at AFCRL. (Author)
