Linear Antennas and Dipole Arrays in a Dissipative Half-Space.

Abstract

The important practical problems of evaluating the electromagnetic fields of finite-sized antennas or of dipole arrays in a dissipative half-space (free-space above an ocean or free-space above a plane earth) are investigated. In this report (1) expressions for the fields of horizontal coplanar dipole arrays in a dissipative half-space are formulated, (2) integral expressions for the fields of horizontal linear antennas in a dissipative half-space are formulated (which can be easily evaluated numerically), and (3) a useful 'traveling-wave' insulated antenna immersed in a dissipative half-space is examined.
