The Detection of Excitation Faults in Paralleled Alternators by a Comparative Method.

Abstract

It has been suggested that excitation faults on paralleled alternators be detected by comparing the output of each voltage regulator with that of an auxiliary regulator of low power. The report describes circuits which were developed at RAE, using micro-circuits where possible, to give similar outputs for the main and auxiliary regulators in normal conditions and to detect the differences which arise when faults occur. Suggestions are made for applying the circuits described to a practical regulator. (Author)
