Scattering Theory for Wave Propagation Problems of Classical Physics by the Method of Lax and Phillips.

Abstract

The paper presents an application of the scattering theory of P. D. Lax and R. S. Phillips to a class of wave propagation problems of classical physics. The problems are governed by symmetric hyperbolic systems. The generalization of the results of Lax and Phillips presented here is based on a new coerciveness theorem for nonelliptic operators due to Schulenberger and Wilcox. (Author)
