Night Carrier Landing Performance on CVA-62 Under American and United Kingdom Deck Lighting Systems,
Abstract
Night carrier landing performance under different deck lighting configurations was compared and analyzed across several different performance criteria. In general, no statistically significant or practically different landing performance was noted under either American lighting or United Kingdom lighting systems. Aircraft boarding rate, bolter rate, waveoff rate, wire frequency distributions and altitude and lateral error are described and statistically evaluated in the report for both night and day aircraft recovery operations.
