Development of Macromolecular Superconductors.

Abstract

Polymerization of diphenyldiacetylene, diphenylacetylene and phenylacetylene was studied. For diphenyldiacetylene and phenylacetylene both Ziegler - Natta type catalyst and thermal polymerizations are successful. For diphenylacetylene, a cyclic trimer was obtained with catalyst but no thermal polymerization was observed. B-ethynylnaphthalene was synthesized and polymerized. Their properties are described. Theoretical calculations of the electron-electron interaction between the side chain and the spine were performed, based on Little's model. The effect of replacing the cyanine side chain with various groups have been evaluated and naphthalene and azulene yield an acceptable value. (Author)
