Biophysical and Electrophysiological Studies of Sensory Mechanisms.

Abstract

The main part of the investigations on vision, was made on the insect compound eye and deals with basic visual functions, such as the spectral characteristics of the photoreceptors, the mechanisms for energy transmission to the photoreceptors, and their static and dynamic properties. The studies also deal with the various transmitting and reflecting mechanisms in the dioptric system and the properties of the photoreception in relation to behaviour, i.e., 'peripheral stimulus filtering and specific responsiveness'. The work on the basic visual mechanisms of the compound eye forms an important theoretical and technical background for the work on the vertebrate eye. (Author)
