On the Closedness of the Linear Image of a Set, with Applications to Generalized Spline Functions,

Abstract

In studying generalized splines one seeks to minimize Norm (Tu-f) for u in some constraint set U. Existence of a minimizing u is often equivalent to TU being closed. The authors consider hypotheses that guarantee closedness of TU, and more generally, the closedness of the sum of U and a closed linear subspace. (Author)
