Low Power Drain, 2 in x 6 in Cathode Ray Tube.

Abstract

The objective of the contract was to develop a new, low power drain, 2 in x 6 in rectangular display cathode ray tube suitable for battery operated service. The device is an expanded and modified version of the 3BGP1. Because of the high aspect ratio of the display area, the width being 3 times the height, major efforts were the design and fabrication of a glass envelope with sufficient strength, keeping within the specified physical demensions and defining production capability requirements. In addition to a unique bulb design, this tube features two types of deflection: electro static on the short axis and electromagnetic on the long axis. The cathode ray tube was designated as Sylvania type SP5106P1. The report covers work on design and tooling of a bulb, design and fixturing the required electron gun, and development of a suitable deflection yoke. Test results and recommendations for continued product developed are included. (Author)
