Recent Developments in Burn Management and Research: Report of a Symposium,

Abstract

Three talks by members of the Medical Research Council Burns Unit, Birmingham Accident Hospital, and the ensuing disucssions are reported. Among the topics receiving emphasis were (1) diagnosis of severity by means of primary excision; (2) treatment with early homografting over residual damaged tissue followed by autografting; (3) importance of the recent reintroduction of the use of silver nitrate compresses in preventing sepsis; (4) methods of maintaining normal metabolism in the burned patient; (5) recent work on immunization against Pseudomonas.
