Transverse Impact of a Blunt Axisymmetric Body of Arbitrary Shape Against a Flexible Plate,

Abstract

The problem of transverse impact against an unbounded flexible plate is the topic of a number of papers. In all these research papers it is assumed that the high tensile impact-wave velocity does not exceed the longitudinal wave velocity. Consequently, under this assumption, after impact two regions occur: the region of purely longitudinal motion and the region of transverse motion. This picture of the motion is characteristic of impact by a pointed body. The paper contains an investigation of impact of a blunt body against a flexible plate for which the high tensile impact wave velocity exceeds the speed of sound in the material.
