Polyatomic Vibrational Intensity Calculations.

Abstract

Methods of intensity estimation are developed whereby most of the polyatomic molecules of interest to certain aspects of atmospheric research may be treated. The ozone molecule is treated in extenso, a method for the computation of matrix element ratios between the first overtone and the fundamental and between the second overtone and the fundamental being developed for nondegenerate vibrations in the course thereof. The nitrous oxide molecule is also treated in extenso, a method for analogous matrix element ratios for twofold degenerate vibrations being developed in the course of this treatment. Nitric acid and methane intensities are also considered, the matrix element ratios being developed for the three fold degenerate case in connection with the latter. (Author)
