Exploratory Development and Analytical Support of Experimental Materials.

Abstract

The report describes research in Raman spectroscopy. The use of group frequency techniques allowed the detection of aromatic compounds, determination of substitution on the benzene ring and in several cases a knowledge of the substituent group. Group correlation frequencies are reporting large numbers of organic compounds. New techniques were developed for handling liquids and solids; most especially, for the study of their Raman scattering. The report primarily presents characteristic frequencies in the raman spectra of the following: Aliphatic and cyclic aliphatic hydrocarbons; Chloroalkanes, bromoalkanes, and iodoalkanes; Aliphatic ethers; Nitroalkanes; Aliphatic alcohols; Aliphatic amines; Amides; Aliphatic aldehydes and ketones; Acyclic organic molecules; and Heterocyclic compounds.
