Fuze Impact Delay Mechanism,

Abstract

This report describes the design of an inertially operated mechanism to achieve delayed explosive train initiation in the FMU-88/B fuze. A rotating g-weight, which is actuated by the deceleration environment, and whose travel is governed by a curved ramp was developed to best comply with the objectives of a low cost, small volume repeatable 3 millisecond delay. The report outlines a mathematical model developed to analytically evaluate design parameters and relates a comparison of analytical and experimental data. (Author)
