Reduced Ceilings and Visibilities in Korea and Southeast Asia.

Abstract

The report summarizes frequency of occurrence of poor ceiling and visibility conditions in Southeast Asia and Korea. The minimum ceilings considered are 1000 feet in Southeast Asia and 300 feet in Korea. Visibility criteria are less than 2.5 miles in Southeast Asia and 1.75 miles in Korea. In general, the greatest frequencies of occurrence are found in early morning hours, and they decrease greatly by afternoon. Much of this dependency of the frequency can be attributed to geographical location, notably the proximity to bodies of water. Some seasonal dependency is also noted in the Southeast Asian land mass due to the effects of monsoon activity. (Author)
