A Review of Squeeze Films,

Abstract

A historical account is given of the development of squeeze films for the original Reynolds-Stefan equation to the present time. Fundamental equations including the effects of inertia, variable viscosity, non-Newtonian fluids, surface tension, dynamic loading and surface roughness are presented. A current application of squeeze film theory is the rolling of a pneumatic tire on a slick pavement and in this case the important factor is pavement texture. (Author)
