The Picatinny Arsenal Automated Antenna Checkout Station.

Abstract

The Telemetry Division of the Technical Services Directorate has instrumented a modern Antenna Checkout Station on a 200-foot by 500-foot tract of land at Picatinny Arsenal. A positioner was installed, capable of handling full-scale missiles or large antennas having maximum length of 25 feet, maximum dia. of 50 inches, and whose weight can be as large as 2,500 pounds. The ACS instrumentation operates in L and S-Band. Frequency extension to cover 200 MHz to 18 GHz is presently in progress. The ACS has been instrumented to provide the following measurements: (a) Radiation density plots over a full sphere with printout level suppression; (b) Polarization plots over a full sphere; (c) Amplitude and phase of near field distribution; (d) Phase center location for an antenna. Processing of these measurements will be carried out in the Picatinny Arsenal CDC 6500 computer. (Author)
