An Algorithm for Maximizing Reliability Through System Redundancy.

Abstract

The paper considers the problem of determining the optimal number of redundant components for various problems involving standby redundancy. After formulating and solving one constraint problems by a branch and bound procedure, the algorithm is extended to multiconstraint problems for series systems and loaded standbys. Theorems are given which allow the use of the special structure of each problem for speeding the computations. Special applications to unloaded standbys are also mentioned. Computational results and examples are given. (Author)
