Abstract
The report describes the research conducted at MIT in the field of materials in the academic departments of the Schools of Science and Engineering, the Research Laboratory for Electronics, the Francis Bitter National Magnet Laboratory, the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, and the solid State Division of the Lincoln Laboratory. The research includes the following fields: Chemical and solid state physics; Electrical, magnetic, and optical properties of materials and application to devices; Metallurgy and materials science; and Materials engineering.
