Effect of Vanadium and Sodium Compounds on Accelerated Oxidation of Nickel-Base Alloys.

Abstract

The conditions necessary for condensation of V2O5 and alkali vanadates has been determined. The effect of V2O5 on the oxidation kinetics of nickel-base alloys has been examined and the oxidation behavior of V2O5-Na2SO4 coated nickel-base alloys were studied. Based upon thermogravimetric and electrochemical studies, it was found that the accelerated rate of oxidation of the salt-coated superalloys is related to the oxide ion concentration of the melt.
